Community Volunteerism Department

Southside Art Center believes that people with Developmental Disabilities do extremely well when learning in natural environments. All of our work is done at non-profit volunteer sites, such as the Food Bank, local churches, parks and libraries, and we are continuing to add new volunteer work sites all the time.

Volunteerism provides the opportunity to learn job skills and creates job satisfaction without the strict mandate of employment. Volunteer work allows flexibility, and variety in work schedules and an option to try out different types of work to discover personal career choice. Creating their own schedule, and a variety of job choices, makes for productive and empowered workers.

We work with sites such as:

  • American Red Cross
  • Foodlink
  • First English Lutheran Church
  • Sacramento Food Bank
